Molsteeg is one of those streets you stumble onto rather than plan to visit — a narrow alley tucked between Kalverstraat and Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, right in the old centre. It’s surrounded by Amsterdam’s most iconic spots: Dam Square, the Royal Palace, De Bijenkorf, and the busiest shopping streets in the city. If you’re doing the classic Amsterdam centre loop, we’re impossible to miss. Come in, try on a few pairs, and head back out looking sharper than when you arrived.

Getting here

Right on Dam Square: tram 2, 12, 17 and 24 all stop steps away. From Centraal Station it’s a 15-minute walk south or a quick tram ride. Metro station Rokin (line 52) is a 5-minute walk.

Molsteeg sounds tiny — how do I actually find it?

It is tiny, which is part of the charm. Molsteeg is a short alley just off Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, right between Dam Square and Kalverstraat. If you’re standing in front of the Royal Palace and walk south, you’ll hit it in under two minutes. Look for the street sign — easy to miss, worth finding.

I’m only in Amsterdam for a day. Is it worth stopping in?

Absolutely — it takes about five minutes and costs €12 if you find something you love. Most people are already walking past on their way between Dam Square and the shopping streets anyway. Pop in, try on a few pairs, and you might leave with sunglasses that outlast the trip.

Why don’t you sell online?

Because sunglasses only really work in person. The weight, the fit, how a tint looks on your face — none of that comes through on a screen. We think the only way to find your perfect pair is to actually try it on. That’s why we have stores instead of a webshop.
